Exercising every day is a crucial component of any plan to remain healthy and physically fit. Even though getting enough exercise is necessary for a healthy lifestyle, you shouldn't think that it needs to me mindless, difficult, or disagreeable. To the contrary, lots of exercise choices are quite enjoyable. If you want your family to shape up and sustain ideal body weights as well as enjoy the time they spend doing so, you'll want to take these simple suggestions to heart when you make your plans for fun family fitness.
Choosing Physical Activities That Everyone Enjoys
It is well known that people will experience the most success at maintaining an exercise regimen when that routine is something that they find enjoyable. If your family wants to be successful at a family fitness plan, it's a good idea to figure out what types of exercise each person enjoys. Most likely, you won't find that people agree on their favorite suggestions, however, this step will help you to create a collection of possibilities. Write down what each member of the family prefers. Next, make a fun, family fitness routine which can be done each week and make sure to include one or more activities from each family members' preferences. This should keep everybody happy and healthy, and it will also help you get to know the physical activity choices of each member of the family. Eventually, you may even find one fitness routine that everybody enjoys. In this case, your family will be able to work out together. A hectic schedule may get in the way of exercising together every day. One solution to this problem is to get a copy of your weekly fitness routine to everybody in the family. Put the weekly physical exercise plans in picture frames and your fitness goals will not only be a helpful prompter, but also become a motivating piece of wall art.
Playtime Fun that Also Serves As Physical Activity
When making your family fitness plan, remember that many fun playtime activities can help you meet your healthy goals just as well as a more typical exercise routine. Many kids love to play soccer, baseball, or basketball and would love to have others in the family join them in a game out back. Cycling on a bike trail, walking through a neighborhood park, skating at the local roller rink, sledding or frolicking in the snow together are all fun options for good workouts. Such exercise is not only good for your health; it is simply, good fun. Don't forget to take photographs of your family as they have a great time doing these things together. Put your fitness photos in picture frames throughout the house and you will reinforce the message you want your family to get which is that family fitness is fun.
Charting Progress to Maintain Motivation
With a little consistency in performing your family fitness routine, you will be amazed to realize how much your family's body strength, stamina and energy have improved. Charting your family member's individual statistics is a great way to see your progress towards any starting fitness goals. If everybody had a goal of losing weight, perhaps a weekly weigh-in would be a motivating idea. Or if increasing stamina was a goal, track your family's weekly mileage and increase it by a quarter of a mile each week. Seeing how much progress you are making individually and as a family is very motivating.
In my opinion, wearing a cap while running is one of the most important things that a runner can do. A good running cap will protect you from the sun, being blinded by the glare of the sun and car lights, and the rain. I wear a cap every time that I go for a run - no matter what time of day it is or what the weather is. I have several and alternate them like I do my shoes. However, after so long - they do get a little stained. So, the question comes up on how to wash your running caps. Here are a few ideas to keep them clean.
Many runners wash their caps by hand. You can fill a sink - or a bucket of water with dish soap to wash it with. If it has severe stains, you can use a soft brush or toothbrush to wash.
I have also heard of runners that will put their running caps in the dishwasher. There's a plastic piece that you can buy that you put the caps on that will hold their shape. Many use that while others just put them in the top shelf in their dishwasher.
Then, there are others, myself included - that put them in the washing machine. Now, I was always afraid to do that - until I had to buy a new washer and dryer a few months ago. This washer has a "hand wash" cycle. I decided to try it with my running caps the other day - and it worked great! I used a special detergent for running clothes - and was so pleased with the results! There were a few stains that completely disappeared! My caps look almost new now.
I was worried about what would happen to the brims in the washing machine - but they came out fine. If you don't have a hand wash cycle - I would think that washing caps should work in the delicate cycle, also. You can wash them right in with your running clothes.
Whichever method that you use to wash your caps - you want to make sure that you let them air dry. You don't want to put them in the dryer. Keeping them out of the dryer should help them keep their shape.
Running caps are important to me - and I'm sure to many other runners. If you take care of them properly, they should last you for a long time.
Tai Chi is a unique pastime, not only is it exercise but it is also consider both a sport and an art. One of the key factors in Tai Chi is the ability of the person practicing the art to focus and use basic meditation methods to execute the exercises correctly. Added to this are factors such as the environment, tranquility, and the proper clothing.
The need for proper clothing cannot be underestimated when practicing Tai Chi as the right fitting clothing is just as important as preparing yourself mentally. According to the experts the spiritual energy possessed by all human beings flows through every pore of the body and wearing tight and restrictive clothing can greatly reduce this energy flow. It is said that this is even more important for beginning practitioners of the art as these people are just learning to find and harness their energy.
The exercises in Tai Chi require a lot of movement and flexibility so clothing such as jeans and jackets are inhibiting and should not be worn. Clothing such as this will also make the wearer extremely uncomfortable while in meditation.
The best clothing for Tai Chi will be light, soft and flexible so that it doesn't inhibit movement and is also limber enough that it will allow the practitioner to easily hold the required postures. The suggested fabrics to use are cotton, silk, and linen. Pants made of linen are always a good choice because of its thermo-regulation properties and in contrast to silk is very durable and resistant to abrasion. With that said the old time traditional Tai Chi masters always wore silk due to it being so plentiful in China. Another good option for those who cannot get silk or linen is cotton which is cool and inexpensive.
As far as color goes, most Tai Chi clothing will be either Black or White or a combination of the two. Some schools will have colors that are specific to that particular school.
Some more casual Tai Chi schools do not necessitate uniforms be worn by their students and will use t-shirts or sweat shirts with the name of the school printed on them. In most cases the shirt is white and will have traditional Tai Chi symbols printed on it or it will be imprinted with the school's logo. In most cases the pants are left up to the student to choose.
The clothes don't make the man and this is also the case with Tai Chi, someone who is very skilled can practice the art in any clothing and in any environment. The point of this article is to show that the optimum choice is to have loose comfortable clothing, especially in the beginning when you are first learning.
Hunter S Thompson had immortalized golf shoes in his famous movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by writing "If we're ever going to get out of here alive we're going to need some golf shoes." Why? Because golf shoes have the grip to walk on the muck, he insists.
Whether you take the above quote seriously or not is a personal choice, but for every sport, your feet plays and important role as it carries a lot of body weight. What protects our feet and gives it support in return are the shoes that we wear. Thus golfing that involves a lot of walking and the player needs to be on his feet for the entire duration of the play, it is very important that you wear the right kind of shoes. Wrong shoes may end up hurting your spinal cord very badly.
Just as different sports have their footwear like tennis shoes, soccer shoes, running shoes, golf too has golf shoes. All professional players wear golf shoes. Do you need a golf shoe? Let's first see what is special about golf shoes that set these apart from other sports shoes.
The most important part of golf shoes are the walking surfaces; the spikes. Although traditionally they used metal spikes, these days rubber spikes are used so that the playing surface is not damaged and at the same time the player gets a good grip on the undulated surfaces. The traction in golf shoes is what that sets its apart from a sneaker.
Since as a golfer you will be on your feet most of the time, golf shoes are supposed to be rigid. These shoes give you a strong support and a good base for your swing shots. You do want to stay on your feet and not on your back at the end of your swing!
Now let's review the question again whether or not you need golf shoes.
If you are considering playing golf in long terms and do spend at least a day on the field in a week, it is advisable that you go for a golf shoe. The more you are careful about your gait, your support and your feet, the longer will be your golfing career. Slipping on a muddy area and injuring yourself just because you were wearing the wrong shoes will not be very wise!
On the other hand if you are happy with your athletic shoe, stick to that as long as it gives you a good tread and strong support to your ankle. The tire pattern for tread is often considered to be good.
If however you plan to buy golf shoes look for the following:
Allow spaces for your toes to wiggle when you wear the shoes.
High-quality spikes that can be replaced.
Ensure that your toes are not getting pinched nor the back of your shoe is riding up.
So next time that you are out there teeing or golfing, do keep an eye on the shoes you are tying up; the shoes should give you support, grip and comfort.
Runners have heard that when they are buying running clothes that they should buy "technical running apparel". But, do you know what that means? Read on to see what technical apparel is and why it is important to runners.
Technical running clothing is made of synthetic fabrics - you may also hear them called moisture wicking materials. Two of the most popular are CoolMax or Dri-Fit. These materials are especially made for runners. They are much better for your running comfort than cotton.
Cotton clothing will absorb your sweat while you are running. And, then the cotton stays wet. This will make you uncomfortable for a couple of reasons. First of all, it makes your clothing heavier as you run. And, it will also trap this moisture against your body and can make you feel cold and pretty miserable. This can even happen on a warmer day.
However, the technical fabrics are made to pull the sweat away from you body - thus the term, moisture-wicking. They are made to dry faster than cotton and will stay pretty dry as you run. This will make you feel much more comfortable as you run. And, for those that do a walk/run program, it is really helpful so that you don't get chilled during the walking parts of your workout.
The material that technical running clothing is made of is lightweight and stretching. This makes it less bulky than cotton. It also means that you don't have to wear many layers when you run on colder days. A moisture-wicking shirt and a jacket or other top over it is probably all you need. If it's a super cold day, then you will need a middle layer. This will keep you dry and warm without carrying around extra weight.
Technical running apparel is needed for all your running wear. Tops, tights, sports bras and your socks. Yes, technical socks are needed rather than cotton. The cotton socks will stay wet and can cause blisters.
Once you try technical running apparel you'll be hooked. You'll see how comfortable you stay during your runs. If you're still a little skeptical, try one piece to see how much better you feel.
Technical running clothing will cost a little more than cotton running clothes. However, you definitely get your money's worth. If taken care of properly, they will last a long time. And, it's hard to put a price on how much better you'll feel during your runs.
Most runners at one time or another will find themselves running in the dark. If it's winter time, you may be running after work when it's already dark. In the summer time, you may be running super early in the morning to beat the heat. So, one way or another, there will be times when you will be running when it's dark out.
Actually, I enjoy running in the early morning hours when it's still dark out. It's so peaceful out when most of the rest of the world is asleep. And, it's especially nice when it's a big full moon in the sky.
Runners need to be a little more cautious when running in the dark, but there are some tips to make it less dangerous.
Make sure you are wearing reflective gear.
You want to make sure that you are well seen in the dark. So, if you light up like a Christmas tree - that's OK! There are all kind of reflective wear available - shirts, jackets, caps, as well as reflective vests.
Watch Out For Areas That Are Not Well Lit
There are a couple of reasons for this. You want oncoming cars, other runners, etc. to see you and also see animals that may be out there. (If you've ever come up on a skunk in the dark, you know what I mean!). Also, you want to be able to see where you are running. There may be large rocks or items that you may trip on if you can't see them.
Run Facing Traffic
This is important all the time, but especially crucial if you are running in the dark. You want to see what is coming up on you and be prepared to move out of the way.
Let Someone Know Your Plan
Before you head out, let someone know of your running plans. Make them aware of the route you plan to run and how long you plan on being gone. Then, let them know when you return.
Make sure you are carrying some sort of identification when you are running. This is important at all times, but especially in the dark.
Running in the dark doesn't need to worry you or your loved ones. Just make sure you are running smart and being aware of your surroundings. You never know - you may even learn to enjoy a peaceful morning run!
